Section 2: Culture of Equity Description/Statement
At Stahl Junior High School we focus on equity and social justice using out vision Statement of showing up, doing the work, and being positive.
- Creating equal opportunities for success in the classroom
- Offering intervention for all students to achieve their highest potential
- Celebrate culture of all students as well as the community
- Encouraging extra-curricular activities to broaden the whole student experience
- Providing after school clubs for every student’s interest to help them connect with at least one positive adult in the building

- Shared Planning and Decision Making: Our Building Leadership Team (BLT) adopted a four-level building decision making model in August 2024 to help guide us in making decisions in our building.

Contributing Factors in Areas of Strengths and Challenges
We have worked hard to increase learning and reduce failing grades over the last several years but still have work to do. We have seen tremendous growth in our ML student population but recognize that there is a disconnect between our ML families and the school community. We are unsure if the hesitancy to connect with the school is due to language barriers or cultural relevancy of the importance of school.
Alignment of School Vision and Equity Statement with Building Culture and Daily Practices
The mission/vision of Stahl for the past number of years has been “Show Up, Do the Work, Be Positive” which is well known by students and staff. We will be working to revise our school’s mission and vision over the course of this school year. We recognize that the purpose of a school’s mission and vision statement is to set the course for our institution by sharing our aspirations, guiding principles and speak to what we are collectively aspiring to attain. We believe that “show up, do the work, be positive” is a great slogan for our school but it does not speak to our aspirations or core educational values.
Staff Demographics
Based on the most recent data from 2022-2023, provided by OSPI, 59% of our teachers are female and 41% are male. The Ethnicity of our staff is: 90% White, 6% Asian, 2% Black and 2% Latino. Our teachers have 12.9 years of experience and 75.5% have a master’s degree or higher.

Goal 1
To support the Puyallup School District’s Strategic Plan that 80% of students meet or exceed benchmark for literacy assessments by Spring 2027, teachers at Stahl will implement strategies to support student literacy in all content areas. Student achievement, as measured by SBA and STAR.

During the 2023 Run of the Washington School Improvement Framework, there are multiple subgroups of students who are struggling with growth, proficiency, regular attendance and/or being on track for graduation. During the 2024-2025 school year, the Stahl MTSS Team will create a systemic framework of interventions to help support students in terms of academic, behavioral, SEL and attendance needs
